Amaanah Refugee Services is there to help refugee families feel welcomed and valued when they arrive in Houston seeking safety and new beginnings. They believe that every refugee family deserves not just survival, but the chance to build happy, successful lives while contributing their gifts to American communities.
Four dedicated staff members and passionate volunteers work together to ensure that resources go directly to families rather than overhead costs. This lean approach means more support reaches the people who need it most. Women and children often face unique challenges during resettlement, and Amaanah pays special attention to creating safe spaces where they can heal, learn, and grow.
Three signature programs help families build connections and confidence in their new home. The Teach 360 program provides tutoring and mentoring for refugee students in Houston and Alief schools, while offering $50,000 annually in college scholarships to help young people pursue their dreams. Refugee women find friendship and guidance through the Big Sisters Circle, where they connect with Houston mentors who speak their languages and understand their experiences. Young refugees and immigrants aged 16-25 build community and friendship through the Amaanah Lions soccer team, while the Borderless program teaches women valuable business and craft skills that can lead to economic independence.
