Woori Juntos was founded in June 2021, but their story began years earlier as the Korean American Voters League of Houston. Community leaders started this work because low-income, older adults who spoke Korean had trouble getting health and social services. In 2018, they faced challenges when county officials questioned their right to help Korean speakers vote, but they organized over 25 civil rights groups to fight back. Today, they are part of the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium.
The name “Woori Juntos” combines a Korean word meaning “we” and a Spanish word meaning “together,” showing their belief that “we rise together.” Their values focus on community care, humanity, solidarity, inclusion, and collaboration. The dandelion in their logo represents strength – like dandelions, their communities refuse to be crushed and grow strong even in difficult conditions.
Woori Juntos helps Asian and immigrant communities across Texas through free services. They provide citizenship help including ESL and civics classes, document preparation, and interview support. They also offer social navigation services like healthcare enrollment, housing assistance, Social Security help, and translation services. All services are free and include Korean language support.
